To All the Friends of Prisma Dental,
Josef and I welcome you to our new blog. Though we stay very busy with patients, as always, we and our patients and staff want very much to keep you informed about new developments and events at Prisma Dental as they occur — when we have new equipment or offer new services, for example.
But we also hope to take the time to let our friends know about what is happening in our lives, even if we have not seen them in a long time. We have been privileged over the years to meet and get to know so many interesting people — as patients, yes, but also as friends.
Please take the opportunity to leave your comments for us here, and explore our blog. We expect it will grow by leaps and bounds, over time, just as has our dental practice and our circle of friends.
Love to all,
Dr. Telma
News 14 Carolina, with Ivanhoe Newswire, did a news feature last week on medical travel that featured Jeff Schult talking about his dental work in Costa Rica, along with patients who went outside of the U.S. for life-saving surgeries because they were uninsured.
Here is the original story with video.
Though the story did not directly mention Prisma Dental — that is where he had his work done, of course.

Though many American patients come to Prisma because they cannot afford the U.S. prices for the extensive dental work they need, sometimes at least some of the dental care is covered by insurance. At Prisma, we help patients with the forms they need for reimbursement from their U.S. insurers.

There is a reason that there are not that many good blogs about dental care in the world. Most terrific dentists are far too busy taking care of patients to sit down and write on a regular basis, and that is certainly true of Drs. Josef Cordero and Telma Rubinstein.
I talked them into this because I think it will be a valuable resource for dental patients around the world. I first visited Prisma Dental in San Jose, Costa Rica in 2004 and had extensive dental work that I could not afford in the United States.
I wrote about my experience in a magazine article that received a terrific response from readers; four years later, I still get e-mail and letters thanking me for it. That article led to my getting to write a book about traveling overseas for high-quality, lower cost medical/dental/health care and cosmetic and other surgery. Beauty from Afar was published in mid-2006. My dentists — my friends — Telma and Josef, and their work, were of course featured in the book. Read the rest of this entry »
