Costa Rica Dental in the News

I was on the radio program “Windsor Now” (AM800 CKLW, Windsor Ontario and Detroit, Michigan) with host Melanie Deveau yesterday, talking about medical tourism and travel, and of course Costa Rica came up as one of the main places that North Americans go.

Most people are unaware that dental care is the biggest single component of the so-called “medical tourism” phenomenon. Major dental work is expensive in both Canada and the U.S. (one of the reasons I and thousands of other Americans and Canadians went to Prisma over the last 16 years.)

According to Neilesh Patel of the non-profit company HealthCare Tourism International, more than 40 percent of patients who search his organization’s website are looking for dental care and, after that, cosmetic surgery and treatment.

Patel’s report notes that:

“The fact that more citizens are choosing to receive healthcare abroad shows that healthcare
is becoming increasingly “globalized.” Just as how in the business world, “work”
(whether manufacturing, customer service, or software development)
is now sent to the places where it can be done most efficiently and cheaply;
citizens are now choosing to receive healthcare in places where they feel
that they can receive the best treatment at a low cost. As this trend grows,
it is important to understand the profiles and preferences of these patients who are looking abroad
for treatment so that medial travel professionals can accordingly plan their business operations
and conduct their business safely and patients can understand what other patients are doing
and make more informed choices.”

That is among the reasons we launched the Prisma Dental Blog — to let people know that dental care at Prisma in Costa Rica should be among their choices, that they do not have to forgo good dental health or a healthy, beautiful smile if they cannot afford prices in the U.S. and Canada and elsewhere in the world.

We welcome comments from our friends and patients at any time. The blog just started yesterday, and we’re delighted to see you here.

I like the concept, but how do I make travel and accomodation arrangement. Anyone know of a company that can makes these arrangements. I would be interested in hiring a personal guide if that is an option.

Hi Simon,

Prisma can help you with travel and accommodation arrangements, and I’ll have them contact you directly. I’ll also be writing more about this on the blog this week.

Thanks for stopping by!
